A recent addition to our team at Olsträd Engineering is senior technician in training, Tommy Agler. Tommy has a background in mechanical engineering, having worked in the applied side of automation. We recently spoke with Tommy and got to know more about him, why he chose a career in engineering, and how he’s enjoyed working for Olsträd so far.
“I like mountain biking, skiing, being outdoors. I really like working on cars, though. That’s what really motivated me to get into engineering.
At my last job I did a lot of troubleshooting; PLC, wiring, etc. so it’s been an easy transition. I liked being a part of diagnostic work, but I knew nothing about combustion or burners before coming to Olsträd. Learning all the different combustion systems and how they work has been tough, but having experienced, knowledgeable coworkers guide me through the process really helps.
One of the biggest challenges has been working at sites. When you go out in the field you never know what to expect. On one job we had to replace all the electrodes and valves and get everything running again. That was tough, but that’s what I like best about this. It’s always different. There’s always a new job, a new task.
