Kaitlin Detmer is the Administrative Assistant at Olsträd Engineering. In her role, she’s responsible for customer service, processing orders, and office filing among other things. She’s an avid reader, and enjoys going for walks with her German Sheppard, Gouda. We recently spoke with her about her position at Olsträd, the challenges she’s faced so far, and what she likes best about working here.
“My background is in retail management, which really helps when servicing customers. You have to be able to go with the flow; sometimes issues come up and customers are unhappy. It takes a thick skin, but good communication skills are necessary to create and maintain healthy relationships with customers.
Sometimes a customer isn’t sure what parts they need, and I have to help them figure it out. I have to make sure customers get what they need; giving them the wrong parts could be disastrous. Learning all the different parts we carry and what they’re used for has been a challenge, but Jennifer, Clint, Ross, and the rest of the team are always there to help. Everyone is so knowledgeable, and willing to share in their knowledge.
Olsträd Engineering really is a great place to work. Jennifer has been amazing guiding me through the process so far. Little by little, I get more responsibility, so there’s definitely room for growth here. There’s also a great work life balance at Olsträd. I worked in retail for 16 years, and this was the first time I could have the holidays off to spend time with my family and that’s something I don’t take for granted at all.”
