Recently, the wife of our company’s owner purchased a Polestar 2 electric vehicle. The owners already have a hybrid, and see this as a logical next step. We’re excited about the addition; not only is the Polestar 2 a sleek ride, it has a number of energy-efficient and environmentally sound features.
All Electric
The Polestar 2 is an all electric vehicle (EV). On a single charge, you can get approximately 270 miles drive time. Dead batteries can charge up to 80% in less than an hour thanks to the fast charging technology.
Another feature is regenerative breaking, an energy recovery mechanism that converts kinetic energy into energy for future use. A small motor converts momentum from the brake discs into energy.
A unique feature of the Polestar 2 is the front trunk, or “frunk” as some people call it. Thanks to the electric motor, there is additional storage space freed up where a traditional engine would be. This is in addition to the ample rear trunk space.
Environmentally Conscious
Electric vehicles burn no gasoline, and therefore have zero carbon emissions. Other pollutants, like motor oil and anti-freeze are absent, or limited, as well.
And while it is true that energy is sourced from an existing power grid, EVs are still more energy efficient, and produce less overall pollution than traditional combustion engines. Increasing the use of electric vehicles makes a good case for moving towards hydro, solar, wind, and other renewable sources for power.
We plan to add charging stations at the side of our building, an are encouraging others to consider making the switch.
ISO 14001
ISO14001 is an environmental standard that encourages companies to identify areas within their organization where they can reduce their carbon footprint, and encourages them to do so. We aren’t ISO 14001 certified yet, but we are committed to becoming certified, and want to help lead the charge to more efficient technologies.
After all, we only have one Earth, and we need to think of its future.
