One of the great things about having offices in Kent, Ohio is that we’re able to access state resources like Ohio’s TechCred program. TechCred is a grant aimed at increasing the skills of Ohioans, and creating stronger workforces for employers. Approved, technology-related training programs are eligible for grants of up to $2500. This is a tremendous incentive for employers to pursue further training for their employees.
The staff at Olsträd Engineering has utilized this funding in the past. Our mechatronics engineer, Jenna Glasure, received a grant for her training in Solidworks Assembly Modeling. A TechCred grant was also issued for one of our engineers, Saroj Dahal, who is set to take a training course for Allen Bradley Studio 5000 Logix Designer Level 3 this fall.
Although there’s a broad range of approved training, some courses still aren’t covered. Our Senior Electrical Designer, Sean Clodfelter, earned a Functional Safety for Machinery Engineer Certification. This was not covered, although we believe it should be added to the list. However, the list of approved courses continues to grow, and we’re always looking at new training options.
“The TechCred program has been phenomenal for Olsträd Engineering. The staff behind TechCred are always easy to work with and quick to respond. Shannon Vanderpool and the rest of the folks at the State of Ohio TechCred program have been great,” VP of Operation Ross M. Maenza said.
We continue to utilize the funding from this program, and encourage other Ohio businesses to do so as well. New funding for programs will open up doors for employees as well as employers.
