People have different preferences for their work space; some people like an air-conditioned office, others prefer sunshine and feeling the breeze. Several of our team members had started to work outdoors, but we only had one table with an umbrella, making it difficult for multiple people to work outside in the shade. So, we decided to install a sun shade on our patio, so more people could comfortably work outside if they prefer!
Research shows people are healthier, happier, and more productive when they have access to sunlight. Not only is the sun shade a great way to work outside without the effects of direct sunlight, it also helps cut the glare on screens. The shade blocks direct light while still allowing plenty of daylight.
Our patio has wifi and access to outlets. We plan on adding additional electrical outlets on several posts, so that more can keep their devices charged and running. Some people even bring their own fans to keep cool. Theoretically, less people in the office means there’s less requirement for air conditioning. This also helps decrease our overall carbon emission!
Our team has been working on installing the sun shade in some pretty extreme heat. Temperatures this week in Kent have already reached nearly 100°F, and Summer hasn’t even officially begun!
