Dampeners
The VML is a slow opening SSOV. The slow opening works by utilizing an oil dampener at the top of the unit. Over time, the dampener can lose its effectiveness or may even begin to leak oil. If this happens with your dampener, then give us a call.
Coils
Solenoid coils are copper wound, and create an electromagnet when energized. The electromagnet attracts the ferrous internal part of the valve, acting against the spring to open the valve and allow flow to pass through. When a coil is damaged, it may no longer create enough magnetic force to open the valve. Coils can fail for a variety of reasons. Some of the most common reasons for failure are power surges, shorts in wiring, or the inside becoming wet (usually through exposure to inclement weather).
Elektrogas solenoid coils are super easy to replace, especially on the VMR models. Just disconnect power, remove the DIN plug (or power wires on the screw terminals), unscrew the nut at the top, and slide the coil off. Slide on the new coil, replace the nut, reconnect power, and go!
PC Rectifier Boards
Elektrogas uses a true DC coil. Often the rectifier’s main job therefore is to take the AC input and output DC for the coil. But that’s not all! Elektrogas valves use a low power feature to switch from full wave rectification (when opening the valve) to quarter wave rectification (when holding the valve open), all thanks to the PC rectifier board.
In case of a power surge or a short in the field wiring, a PCR board might suffer a burnt trace or a damaged component. Luckily, replacing the PCR board is often as easy as soldering two wires.
When replacing a spare part due to an electrical event (field wiring or power surge), it’s important to ensure the cause has been corrected before applying power to the new component(s). Otherwise, you may damage the new parts, and find yourself back on square one.
DIN Plugs
DIN plugs tend to fail for mechanical reasons (i.e. accidental damage). The plugs for Proof of Closure devices (POCs) need replaced if the LED burns out. In either case, the DIN plug can become corroded or accidentally damaged
